- Who can legally give immigration advice in New Zealand?
- Only licensed immigration advisers and people who are exempt under the Immigration Advisers Licensing Act 2007 can give New Zealand immigration advice. The main exempt group is New Zealand lawyers with a current practising certificate. Anyone else charging for immigration advice is breaking the law.

- What is the difference between an immigration adviser and an immigration lawyer?
- Licensed immigration advisers are licensed and regulated by the Immigration Advisers Authority. Immigration lawyers hold a practising certificate from the New Zealand Law Society and are exempt from adviser licensing. Both can represent you to Immigration New Zealand; lawyers can also act in court and give broader legal advice.
